features incredible new creative tools for colorists! The new HDR palette lets
you create custom color wheels for targeted corrections, primary controls have
a new design that makes them easier to use, magic mask uses the DaVinci
Neural Engine to automatically isolate and track objects, and the new mesh and
grid based color warper lets you push and morph colors in creative new ways!
Power Window drawing has been improved, there are new split screen wipe
options, an additional Sat vs Lum curve, improved scopes, support for 17 point
3D LUTs and more. Plus, the massive new DaVinci wide gamut color space enables
even higher quality image processing and color management!
Next Generation HDR Grading Tools
The HDR grading
palette lets you create new color wheels with custom roll off for specific
tonal ranges, giving you more creative control to make fine adjustments. The wheels
include exposure and saturation controls for each zone. They’re color space
aware so you get perceptually uniform results.
Color Warper for Refined Grading
The mesh based
warping tool lets you adjust two color parameters at once. You can adjust
both hue and saturation or chroma and luma. Adjustments are made by dragging
control points, with smooth falloff for clean, natural looking adjustments. It’s
an entirely new way to transform color in your images!
Targeted Grading with Magic Mask
Selecting and
tracking people for targeted correction has never been easier! Magic mask uses
the DaVinci Neural Engine to automatically create masks for an entire person or
specific features such as face or arms. You get matte finesse tools,
the ability to add and remove strokes and automatic tracking!
Advanced Color Management
DaVinci Resolve
color management adds features to simplify your workflow and improve image
quality. You get wide gamut image processing, new input and output tone
mapping and color space aware tools that provide for a more consistent
response while grading and greatly improved image quality!
DaVinci Wide Gamut Color Space
DaVinci wide gamut
and DaVinci intermediate are timeline color space and gamma settings that
provide a universal internal working color space. It’s larger than what
cameras can capture, or BT.2020, ARRI wide gamut and even ACES AP1. You’ll
never lose image data, no matter where it comes from!
Updated 3D Professional Scopes
You
can now open multiple versions of a same scope, set customizable waveform
scales, create 3x3 layouts and open a separate scope window on a second
display. You could open 3 vectorscopes, set to different tonal and
zoom ranges, allowing you to simultaneously see shadows, midtones, and highlights.
Additional LUT Support
DaVinci Resolve 17
lets you generate 17 point 3D LUTs directly from the timeline, which are great
for monitoring on set. There’s also support for video range LUT metadata, as
well as the ability to set your own custom LUT paths either on local or to a network
volume for sharing LUTs in a facility.
New Viewer Wipe Modes
New diagonal,
venetian blind and checkerboard wipes provide additional flexibility for
comparing images in different ways. A new split screen mode for comparing
up to four playheads from the timeline is useful for comparing multiple clips
or for comparing different frames within the same clip.
The edit page adds
dozens of time saving new features that professional editors have asked for!
New proxy workflows dramatically improve performance and make it easy to
move projects between systems. You can now sync clips on the timeline and
convert them to a multicam group, make source side adjustments before
editing a clip into a project, share individual timelines and bins,
remove 3:2 pulldown in realtime, and more. The edit page also supports
mattes and keying for composites, motion blur on certain transitions, and the
ability to render effects heavy portions of the timeline to a new file.
The DaVinci Neural Engine also gives you scene cut detection,
de-interlacing and smart reframing.
Proxy Media Workflows
Now you can create
easily managed, independent proxy media that dramatically improves system
performance and makes projects portable! Proxies can be as small as 1/16th
resolution and saved as H.264, H.265, ProRes or DNxHR. They can even be
generated internally or externally by third party tools.
Easily Sync
Multicam Clips
It’s now easier to
create synchronized multicam clips! Simply stack clips on the timeline and use
the new "auto align" tool to sync based on timecode or waveform. You can
also manually move clips into position to create a sync map. Timelines can
be converted into a multicam clip or a compound clip!
Keying and Compositing
New Resolve FX 3D,
HSL and luma keyer plug-ins let you pull keys directly in the timeline on both
the edit and cut pages! In addition, alpha channels from Resolve FX and
Open FX plug-ins are now supported, as are embedded alpha channels and external
matte files giving you even more compositing options!
Render in Place
The render in place
command lets you generate render files for any portion of the timeline. Once
rendered, you can move, edit and trim without having to re-render. Render files
can be created in any format and saved wherever you want. Unlike cache files,
render files are easy to manage and portable!
Source Clip
Adjustments
Source side
adjustments let you change a clip before editing it into the timeline. All instances
of the clip are edited in with the changes. For example, you can adjust
RAW controls, add a LUT, remap audio tracks, change sizing, playback frame
rate and more, all before editing a clip into the timeline!
Sharing Timelines
and Bins
You can now import
and export individual timelines or bins, giving you more ways to collaborate!
You don’t have to share entire projects and you no longer have to copy and
paste timelines or bins from one project into another! Timeline and bin files
are easy to share and small enough to email!
Improved Editing with Interlaced Material
New support for
native processing of interlaced timelines results in higher quality compositing
and titling for interlaced deliverables. High quality DaVinci Neural Engine
de-interlacing analyzes motion between fields to reconstruct progressive
frames. You also get realtime 3:2 pulldown removal!
Enhanced Timeline Organization
DaVinci Resolve 17
features incredibly useful timeline management and organization tools. You can
disable unused timelines without deleting them. This removes them from the
viewer’s timeline drop down menu, which can also now be organized
alphabetically, by creation date, or in order of recent use.
Scene Cut Detection
Scene cut analysis
can now be performed on both the cut and edit pages. It’s the fastest way to
cut up long clips that you need to re-edit or color grade when you don’t have
the original source files. The DaVinci Neural Engine analyzes the images,
finds the edit points, and cuts up the clip for you!
Compositions you
create on the Fusion page can now be saved as a template and used on the
edit or cut page! New animation curve modifiers can be used to
automatically retime animations when you change their duration in an edit.
Audio playback with waveform display makes it easier to create precisely timed
animations, there are shared markers with the edit page and more. In addition,
27 GPU accelerated Resolve FX have been added to the Fusion page, including the
noise reduction and sharpening tools from the color page! New node view
bookmarks make it easy to navigate large comps, the toolbar can be customized
with your favorite tools, and vertical layouts are supported in the node editor.
Build Your Own
Effects with Customizable Templates
Fusion effect templates let you create any effect imaginable
and apply them to clips on the edit and cut pages! Simply build a composition,
save it as a macro, define the parameters you want to make visible, and
save it in the correct location. Just drag Fusion effect from the library onto
any clip!
Automatically
Retime Animations
Animation curve
modifiers let you easily stretch or squish keyframes and add bounce, mirror or
loop animations that automatically change when the duration of the composition
changes. When you drop Fusion titles or effects onto the timeline and change
its duration, the animation adjusts accordingly!
Sync Audio Animations
The Fusion page can
now playback audio from the edit or cut page timeline. You can choose a mix
down from the timeline, or you can listen to the source clip’s audio. Waveforms
are displayed in the keyframe editor, allowing you to create precisely timed
animations that are in sync with the audio!
Custom Vector Shapes
Vector shape tools
make it easier to create motion graphics! You get ellipsis, rectangles,
polygons and stars, along with boolean operators for combining shapes to create
intricate designs. Grid, jitter, offset and transform, let you customize
animations. Shapes can also be used as particle sources!
GPU Accelerated
Resolve FX
The Fusion page has
27 new GPU accelerated Resolve FX. This includes the color page’s noise
reduction and sharpening tools, along with lens blur, light effects, color
effects, revival image restoration tools and more. You also get texture
and stylize, temporal effects, warping and beauty tools.
Personalize Your Workflow
Node tree bookmarks
let you quickly navigate to any part of the node tree in a large
composition. Customizable toolbars let you quickly switch toolbars based on the
current task. Vertical node tree layouts give you more room to view the spline
and keyframe editors when creating animations, and more.
DaVinci Resolve 17
includes user interface and workflow improvements across the entire app! You’ll
find new and improved format support on the media page, new delivery options,
and a unified inspector design on the media, cut, edit, and Fairlight

collage, 3D keyer, HSL keyer, luma keyer, smear, motion trails, noise
reduction, transform and false color. The object removal, dead pixel
fixer, dust buster, blur and film grain plug-ins have also been improved.
Updated Inspector Layout
A new unified
inspector design can be found on the cut and edit pages. This makes DaVinci
Resolve easier to learn because adjusting and animating clip settings is now
done the same way on every page. There are tabs for video, audio, effects,
metadata, RAW controls and more.
Additional Format Support
Support for growing
files in the media pool lets you start editing while files are still being
recorded! There’s decoding support for QuickTime PNG, uncompressed RGB 8-bit
and YUV 10-bit AVI, and spanned Panasonic 8K SHV clips. There’s improved GoPro
CineForm support, mp3 on Linux and HTJ2K.
